Tam Beck

I’m a qualified counsellor specialising in life transitions and the anxiety’s which accompany daily living. You’ll find my approach is positive, proactive and challenging. I believe in helping you face your difficulties head-on to make meaningful changes.

My experience spans both private practice and meaningful volunteer work. I’m a bereavement counsellor at St Christopher’s Hospice, supporting people through profound loss and grief. I also volunteer with the charity Support After Sport, working directly with athletes facing deselection, injury or retirement – the very transitions that can feel so isolating and overwhelming.

I’ve worked with professional athletes, high-achieving professionals and individuals facing major life transitions. What they all have in common is a readiness to engage honestly with their current situation and bring a commitment to moving forward. Drawing from my background as a headhunter, and through my yoga teachings, I bring a unique approach to your counselling sessions.

Athlete career transition counselling and life after sport

Retiring from professional or elite sport is one of the most difficult transitions you’ll face. The loss of identity, structure, purpose and community can leave you feeling lost, directionless and asking ‘who am I now?’

Ready to move forward?

Taking the first step is often the hardest part

If you’re ready to move on from feeling stuck and start making real changes in your life, counselling can give you the clarity, tools and support you need. Whether you’re an athlete struggling with retirement or someone navigating a difficult transition, this is your moment to move forward.

Reconnecting with your sense of self

Life has taken an unexpected turn, and you may feel unsure who you are within it.
Our work together creates space to gently explore who you are now, and how your experiences — all of them — can inform what comes next.

Drawing on 25 years’ experience as a head-hunter, alongside work in bereavement and with Support After Sport, I understand how deeply change can unsettle identity. Together, we’ll reflect on what your journey has shaped, what still fits, and what you may be ready to leave behind so you can move forward with greater clarity and authenticity.

Grief and loss

Loss takes many forms: a person, a relationship, your health, your career, or a version of life you expected. Whatever your loss, the impact deserves to be acknowledged.

We’ll begin by understanding how this is affecting you right now. I can offer practical ways to support you through the difficult moments, while holding a space where you don’t have to carry it all on your own.

Finding meaning again

You may be getting through each day, doing what’s needed, yet something feels missing. A sense of purpose can quietly fade, leaving things feeling flat or disconnected.

Rather than searching for meaning as something external, we’ll work together to rebuild it from within in a way that feels personal, steady, and genuinely yours.

Working through anxiety, low mood, and confidence

At times, your thoughts may feel overwhelming. At others, everything can feel heavy or muted. It’s common for confidence to shift alongside this, often without you noticing when it began.

Whatever you’re experiencing, there is a way through. Together, we’ll explore what sits beneath these feelings, helping you make sense of them and begin to rebuild from a place of understanding and self-trust.

Adjusting to change and its impact

Life changes rarely happen in isolation. They can affect how you relate to others and how others respond to you.

We’ll take time to understand what’s shifted both for you and within your relationships and find a way to navigate those changes with greater clarity, balance, and compassion for everyone involved.

Identity and purpose

Identity and purpose are not fixed; they evolve as life unfolds. At certain points, it’s natural to pause and ask: Who am I now?

This question can arise after significant life events or emerge gradually over time. However it has surfaced for you, this is a place to begin exploring it, without pressure, and at your own pace.

Letting go of the need to have it all figured out

The expectation to have everything mapped out can feel relentless, even when those expectations were never yours.

Together, we’ll gently unpack where that pressure comes from and begin shaping a way forward that feels aligned with you, not just something that appears right from the outside.
